Before you download

Is it really free?: Yes, and it stays free. The morning letter arrives every day on the free plan, forever, with ads. Premium adds the midday and evening letters, unlimited journaling and the rest — $39.99 a year or $3.99 a month. Nothing you were using gets taken away.
Do you sell or read my journal?: No. Your entries and voice memos are private to your account, we don't sell personal information, and journal content is never used for ad targeting. You can delete everything from inside the app. The Privacy Policy says this in full.
Any streaks or guilt notifications?: No streaks to break and no notification that you've missed one. You choose the times letters arrive, and you can turn them off. Skipping a day costs you nothing.

I built Dear Optimist because every app that was supposed to help me feel better kept score, and missing a day started to feel like one more thing I'd failed at. So this one doesn't keep score: no streaks, no badges, no notification telling you that you've broken something. And your journal is yours — I don't read it, I don't sell it, and nothing you write is used to decide what to advertise to you.
